Featured on the blog today is a gorgeous family anxiously awaiting the arrival of their princess, Sarai. But really though, her name actually means “Princess” or “My Princess” Anyone else low key obsessed with baby names and their meanings? That’s a topic for another blog haha, today I want to talk all about this magical maternity session taken at James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area in Lee’s Summit, MO. If you watch my stories on Instagram or have talked to me about locations recently, you’ve probably heard that this is one of my favorite parks in the area. I’m all about finding spots with water, fields, forests, dirt roads, + flowers and James A. Reed has all of them! I was even surprised to learn that sunflowers (my newest obsession) bloom there in the early summer months. So when Momma talked to me about wanting a location with lots of nature, I knew this park would be perfect. We met in the evening and from there, nature cooperated beyond perfectly. Everything from the mist rising off the flowers to the perfect amount of cloud cover to procure a majestic and vibrant sunset, it was exactly what you’d expect for photos celebrating the arrival of a princess.
But as much as the elements glowed for this session, nothing glowed brighter than this Princess’s Momma! I mean look at that how she steals the show even in a field of sunflowers! This woman radiates joy so much that it takes a physical form in her beauty. Ever met someone with a smile so warm that it just sticks with you through out the day? You’ll see as you scroll, she is a perfect example of that! Not to mention, she posed with her bump like a straight up super model haha.
Now moving onto another important character in Sarai’s story: Dad took extra care with posing and looking out for Momma in every picture, even if he wasn’t in it. For example, I always think it’s so sweet when husbands fix the wive’s hair. Ladies, can we all agree that in almost every picture ever our first thought is “What’s my hair doing…” haha. It’s important to us, and when our husband’s take initiative to care about what we care about it fills our love bucket. Even in my short time with them, I grew to adore how these two love each other and it made me so excited to see how they will go the extra miles to love their baby girl.
Last but CERTAINLY not least, we have big brother who has absolutely stolen my heart. This kid is SO sweet and has so much personality. He’s going to make such a wonderful big brother, with the best mix of protecting, loving, and probably sometimes annoying (It’s only healthy with siblings) his little sister! He did so so good at this session even with it getting a little hot and humid towards the end. The best part? Him asking his Momma the next day “Where the pretty pictures are and why aren’t they on the fridge yet?”
All in all, I loved this session. Each little personal detail I mentioned above, brought so much magic to these portraits and I’m so excited I got the honor of capturing them! Now enough of me pretending that I’m a writer, let’s get to the good stuff: Keep scrolling to see my favorite photos from this magical maternity session in Lee’s Summit, MO.
Thank you again to this amazing family for allowing me to capture this milestone in their lives!
