Clay + Shelby | Kansas City Wedding Photographer | Winter Engagement Session

I hear so many people say they only want to take pictures when it’s green, and while I do agree that green is beautiful, I also think that the neutrals of winter are some of the very best backdrops for portraits. Clay and Shelby’s engagement session is the perfect example of how stunning the winter tones can be. We took these photos at one of my favorite parks just outside of Kansas City that is filled with fields, lakes, and trails. The sunsets there are beautiful all year round but especially in December - March! The reason winter browns are so magical for portraits? Green can compete for your eyes attention in a photo, while neutral winter browns and grays draw your eyes directly to your subject. The sunlight also reflects off of the browns and creates more golden hues than in the more colorful months. The only downside to winter sessions is the weather, it can be super cold, but if you find a warmer day, it can be absolutely magical.
