Rachel: Class of 2020 | Lee's Summit Senior Photographer | Unity Village, MO

Featured on the journal today is Rachel, a beautiful soul, an artist and a 2020 graduate.

Our original session date was actually during the stay-at-home order here in Lee’s Summit, so that means we had to make some adjustments. Obviously we couldn’t shoot, but it also meant Rachel couldn't go shopping for any new clothes or get her hair done or any of the other things one might do to get ready for a portrait session. It was frustrating to add moving her shoot to the growing list of Senior Year Activities that had to be postponed, but in the end it was the best choice and we made up for it with an amazing shoot. We picked Unity Village for her session being an all outdoor location with a variety of backdrops. It was important to Rachel to get some more unique portraits for her senior year, as she’s definitely not one to just go along with the crowd.

Through her session we talked about her love of music (she even introduced me to a few new bands to follow!) and her plans after high school. She’s actually heading to Europe to immerse herself in new cultures and see where things take her! I mean really, how amazing is that? I feel like so many of us dreamt about doing that after high school, but I was so inspired to meet someone who is actually doing it!

One thing that really stuck out about Rachel was how much she remains true to herself. She has a steady, quiet and humble confidence that just radiates from her. It’s absolutely beautiful to witness and I wanted to capture that in her photos as much as I could even after just meeting her. That’s one of the coolest parts of my job, to find those traits and strengths of my subjects and illustrate them. It’s about so much more than pretty backdrops, fun clothes and perfect faces. It’s about capturing pieces of who a person is to remember years to come.
